SUDS and VoC Scale

SAVS


Summary: This is a combination of two measures. The Subjective Units of Disturbance Scale (SUDS) was developed by Wolpe (1958), although this version only uses 0-10 (instead of the original 100). The SUDS is a widely used measure of current reactivity, with reduced reactivity indicating recovery. This widely used measure has documented validity, reliability, and correlations with several physiological indices of distress.

The Validity of Cognition (VoC) scale is an individualized measure of beliefs, developed by Shapiro (1989). This is a semantic differential scale, which (as a class) has documented validity and reliability (Emmerson & Neely, 1988). The VoC itself has been used successfully in a number of trauma studies. Since children and adolescents tend to have difficulty generating suitable statements, I have pre-selected several statements which represent common beliefs related to trauma and recovery. This format is experimental.

You are welcome to use this measure in your research, on the condition that you share your data with me for further validation. The content shown here is correct, but the printed format is nicer than this one.
